Speaking of follow-through, I think I have talked myself into training for a sprint Triathlon.
Last summer I was part of a team in the Outdoor Divas Triathlon in Longmont, Colorado. My sister had participated in the past, doing the swim leg of the event with friends she had known a long time. Last year the person who usually did the bike leg of the relay was unable to make it the weekend of the race, so my sister invited me to participate.
It was nice to have a goal to work towards- I can always say “I’ll bike more this summer.” But there is nothing like a race entry to make a person train. We had three goals: to survive, to have fun and to finish. My sister said that only the first 2 mattered. We did survive, and we did have fun. We didn’t finish first (or last, either) but we did finish.
At New Years, my sister announced that she had decided to sign up for the triathlon on her own, instead of as part of a team. She said back in August right after the race that she was considering it, so it wasn’t a big surprise.
To my own surprise, though, I am considering competing in the whole thing myself as well.
I’ve even told people about it, downloaded a training plan, heck, I’m writing a blog post about it. I went swimming last week, and I’ve ridden my bike twice. I haven’t signed up for the race yet, though…I guess I’m not 100% committed.
